Development Chemist Polymers
Greater Manchester
We are working with an established manufacturer of polymeric products. The company is the sole operator in their market and uses a patented set of processes and chemistries to produce their products. They are seeking a Development Chemist to work in the formulation and development (NPD) of products and technical support of their production for end users.
What you’ll do:
The role will in brief see you working on:
- Ink and Polymer formulation
- Material testing (viscosity, rheology, visual)
- REACH, health and safety compliance
- Project Management
You will be assisting internal and external customers with their challenges and issues relating to polymer products. You will be central to the advice on projects to achieve the best application results. You will provide high level technical support, reformulating, raw material change and colour matching.
- You will be performing market research to understand and keep updated market requirements and initiate new product development activities. Analyse new components, and materials/technologies to evaluate functionalities
- Design concepts for development of new products and work on these becoming real products.
- Develop prototypes, carry out testing and facilitate mass production
- Conduct line-trials and work with process engineers on the optimal route to manufacture
- Project manage to achieve technical objectives within cost and time budgets, including stage gate processes when designing prototypes and products
- Prepare and approve of product design and test plans
- Meet with customers to discuss projects, some travel required
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers
- Monitor and maintain a professional working knowledge of REACh, RoHS and other compliance
- Supervise 2 direct reports
Qualifications and experience sought:
- BSc/MSc/MRes/MChem degree in Chemistry (or closely related field)
- Experience in product development role highly desirable
- Project Management experience highly desirable
- Polymer chemistry skills highly desirable
- Ink formulation skills desirable
- People, communication and problem solving skills required
- Full UK driving licence required
- Willing to travel required
