We are currently working with a PhD student who will be completing his thesis in September. His PhD is based around Molecular Sciences and this has involved medicinal chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry of small molecules and precursors. During this time he assembled libraries of molecules, interpretted synthetic and analytical results and improved the potency and pK values for the products. Characterisation was completed by HPLC, NMR, LCMS, IR and UV-Vis.
He has a year of experience in industry of synthetic organic chemistry, where he completed a student placement at GSK. From this he observed the differences in pace between academia and industry and this has allowed him to improve his skills in efficient problem solving when it comes to synthetic reactions.
