Currently in the closing stages of their PhD, this candidate has been working in incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) into various materials, particularly focusing on enhancing the properties of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). This has been driven by a property improvement that the project has pursued, which will have significant impact on the working life and functionality of a global product that rubber is ubiquitously used for.
Their PhD research at a prestigious UK institution, funded by industry partners, explores GNP’s potential to improve rubber compounds, demonstrating advanced knowledge in nanocomposite synthesis and processing techniques like extrusion, injection molding, and electrospinning.
This work draws from their skills built up in the material science fields, these include energy storage, water treatment, and agriculture, where they developed polymer-based sorbents and nanofiber electrodes for diverse applications such as oil-water separation and electrical energy storage. This candidate is keen to apply his skills in the fields of work of their next organisation and brings an adaptability from these different material systems. They also bring skills in material characterisation, SEM, XRD, and wider analytical skills.
They have an ongoing industry focus to their work and indeed their projects have centred on ensuring that their research aligns with real-world applications for some time so we anticipate the transition from academic-to-industry to be all the more straightforward. This being siad they have had a successful academic career in it's own right, with conference presentations and publications, including notable works on GNP’s role in optimising polymer blends and elastomers.
We feel their versatile skill set, coupled with a strong foundation in materials science and collaboration with industry, positions them as a strong prospect advancing graphene-based technologies and other fields of material innovation.
